  2. Approach • Full names of authors are often indexed under different entries • The indexing of author names with prefixes is often inconsistent in English databases • Use the author index to find all entries

  3. Go to Indexes

  4. van den hoofdakker, r When looking for a surname with prefixes… … type prefix / surname / comma / space / initial, click Browse

  5. Select one or more terms and Add to search

  6. hoofdakker, r Change name to Hoofdakker, R. and click Browse

  7. Select the term and click Add

  8. Summary • Find the different entries for the full name • Search for surnames with prefixes in English databases: try both with and without the prefixes • Be aware that there may be typing errors and/or incomplete initials or first names
