  3. Why I do what I do

  4. One size fits all? • Employees have kids • Take care of elderly or disabled • Dietary restrictions • Big hair! • Who cares? Is the reason important? • We all have different needs • We all have different opinions • What is the end goal?

Why do we work 8-hour days? • Product of 19th century socialism and 20th Century Industrial growth • the Federation of Organized Trades and Labor Unions resolved in 1884 that "eight hours shall constitute a legal day's labor” • 8 Hour Workday was determined to be most efficient schedule for factory production. • June 26, 1940 – Fair Labor Standards Act • Established 40 Hour Week • Overtime Pay “Eight hours labor, eight hours recreation, eight hours rest” -Robert owen, 1817

Leonhard Widrich, Contributor, Huffington Post • One of the first businesses to implement this was the Ford Motor Company, in 1914, which not only cut the standard workday to eight hours, but also doubled their worker’s pay in the process.  To the shock of many industries, this resulted in Ford’s productivity off of these same workers, but with fewer hours, actually increasing significantly and Ford’s profit margins doubled within two years.  This encouraged other companies to adopt the shorter, eight hour work day as a standard for their employees.
