Family, Living or Great Rooms • Activities that commonly take place in living areas: • Conversation, recreation, dining, entertaining, hobbies, relaxing • The ideal diameter for the primary conversation area: • 8-12 feet • Furniture to put in a family room: • Durable and easily-maintained furniture

  3. Traffic Paths • Space needed for major traffic path: 4’ to 6’ • Space needed for minor traffic path: 1 ½’ to 4’

  4. Seating Clearances • Foot room between sofa/chair and edge of coffee table top: 1 to 1’- 6” feet • Floor space in front of chair for feet and legs:1’6” to2’-6” feet • Chair or bench space in front of desk or piano: 3 feet
