  2. Past • Formally launched on Jan 15th 2001 • Created as a feeder for Nupedia • Nupedia had extensive peer-review • Nupedia was only contributed to by scholar-volunteers • September 9th 2007 : passes 2 million article mark. Making it the largest encyclopedia ever assembled.

  3. Present • 2,645,714 articles • 264 languages • 8,410,318 users • Wikipedia has immense cultural impact • Only non-profit website in the top 10 most visited website • It has been used in books, academic studies and court cases • Anyone could edit it info as of 12/3/08

Future • Predictions 10 years: the website as we know it will become obsolete or severely changed 25 years: Wikipedia will only be able to be modified by a group of intelligent researchers; the interface will be much more awesome 50 years: anyone can upload their entire brain to a Wikipediaesque database
