  3. Web-based Course Management Systems or Learning Management Systems • Organize your classroom • Making non-teaching tasks easier to manage • All data in one place • Keep parents up to date and involved • Allows you to upload assignments • Getting rid of the proverbial dog that ate it. • Allows assignments to be turned in online • Again there goes the dog excuse  • Allows for notes, calendars and other pertinent information to be available at all times • Student portfolios can be create and managed online. • These portfolios can follow them through school

  4. Why should we use online learning communities • Can upload any learning materials • Can support different languages • Plugin to turnitin • Classroom without walls • Worrying about make up work is no longer a problem • Lessons, classnotes and assignments can be uploaded for all to see • Provides free tutors

  5. Potential Concerns • Expensive • Stability of the platform • Lack of training • Teacher comfort in using the modules • Free sites such as Moodle and Rcampus • This could be accessed from any internet source. i.e.: School, home or public library • Interested teachers could pilot the program and then pair up with others to teach them how to use the site, afterschool or PLC time could be used.

  6. In Conclusion • Using web-based course management Systems are a great way to quickly and easily organize all the non-teaching aspects of the teaching profession. • Many colleges have moved towards course management systems to provide a stable atmosphere for students to organize their assignments, keep up to date on assignments and retrieve missed work when absent. • Is it not time for us to follow suit?
