  1. EMA is a payment of up to £30 per week; Paid directly into your bank every fortnight, (making it a payment of up to £60) To help with the cost of continuing with your education. Eligible students may receive bonus payments of £100 up to three times per year.

  2. You can apply if…… • You are aged 16, 17, 18 or 19 • Attending school or college full time or at least 15 guided hours per week • Your household income was £33,950 per year or less in tax year 2011-12

  3. Where can I get an application form? See your EMA administrator at your school/college Download one at www.emani.gov.uk

  4. Applying is as easy as……. 1…….2…….3

  5. Step 1 Complete the form Remember to include; • a Birth Certificate and • your household Tax Credit Award Notification (TCAN) (any version EXCEPT “R”) See the guidance notes for help on evidence we accept

  6. Step 2 Return the form! DON’T FORGET TO PAY THE CORRECT POSTAGE! We recommend you also get proof of postage

  7. Step 3 Receive your award letter We will tell you how much you are entitled to by letter Remember when you start term to sign your Learning Agreement Part 1 & 2 – we cannot pay you until you do!

  8. Important things to remember! • Answer all the questions, especially your bank details • Sign the application form • Include only ORIGINAL evidence • Pay the correct postage • Read the guidance notes for help

  10. Are you already receiving EMA? Do you have a change in your circumstances? (for example a change in your household income) If so contact our customer services team for a Reassessment form

  11. On the 2nd or3rd year of your course? Did you receive EMA last year? If so we will write to you around June to confirm your EMA, there is no application to complete! Call us if you do not get a letter
