Cataract Surgery – Improving Quality Of Life With Improved Vision

Cataract surgery is performed by ophthalmologists to remove the lens of the eye, replacing it with an artificial lens. The lens of the eye is usually clear, but cataracts cause it to become cloudy, having a negative impact on your vision over time. This procedure is carried out as an outpatient service, which means you can recover in the comfort of your own home. This is a safe and common procedure carried out daily.<br>Visit https://www.retinasurgeon.uk.com.

  1. Cataract Surgery – Improving Quality Of Life With Improved Vision Cataract surgery is performed by ophthalmologists to remove the lens of the eye, replacing it with an artificial lens. The lens of the eye is usually clear, but cataracts cause it to become cloudy, having a negative impact on your vision over time. This procedure is carried out as an outpatient service, which means you can recover in the comfort of your own home. This is a safe and common procedure carried out daily. Cataracts tend to cause blurred vision and lights become too much glare, making you turn them down or off completely. This can make driving difficult, especially at night, it can interfere with normal daily activities and when this happens, the only option is cataract surgery. Surgery may also be recommended to patients who have other eye diseases and the cataract is making it difficult for the ophthalmologist to monitor it, such as age-related macular degeneration, which requires the doctor to see the back of the eye. Choosing to have this surgery is completely your decision. If you have cataracts, which are only slightly impacting your vision, you may be able to wait years before you have the surgery. Your eye won't get damaged by waiting. If you're concerned about the risks associated with cataract surgery, they can be managed and treated effectively. Risks include inflammation, bleeding, infection, drooping eyelid, swelling, artificial lens discolouration, retinal detachment, secondary cataract, glaucoma, and loss of vision. Complication risk is usually higher when there is another underlying eye condition or medical condition. If possible, treat other eye conditions, such as age-related macular degeneration or glaucoma before electing to have cataract surgery. Before the surgery, you will need to visit your ophthalmologist who will carry out an ultrasound test to identify the shape and size of your eye. This test is completely painless and is essential to determining the right lens implant. Most cataract patients receive an IOL (intraocular lens),

  2. which improves vision by focusing the light to the back of the eye. The lens becomes a permanent part of your eye, you will not be aware of it. Cataract surgery is carried out as an outpatient treatment and the surgery usually takes less than an hour. The ophthalmologist will place eye drops in your eye, which dilates the pupil, along with a local anesthetic. You may be given a sedative, which is useful in relaxing you. The clouded lens is then removed and the artificial lens is implanted. It will take a few days for your vision to improve after the surgery. It's not uncommon for your vision to appear blurred as your eye adjusts and heals. It's not uncommon for patients to see brighter colours, due to the clear lens that they are looking through. Healing will be monitored at your ophthalmologist's practice for a few weeks after the surgery. You may be asked to wear an eye patch for a few days to shield your eye from dust and dirt, protecting it. You may also be asked to use it to protect your eye when you are sleeping, reducing the risk of trying to rub or scratch the eye due to mild discomfort or itching. Most people start to find their discomfort disappears within a few days. It will take up to eight weeks for your eye to heal completely. The success rate for cataract surgery is high with some patients developing a second cataract over time.
