  1. Should I limit my resume to just a single page?

  2. “Resume writing is a daunting task. You would’ve probably heard the rule about “sticking to a single-page” – when it comes to deciding the length of your resume. This is not entirely true, and can sometimes sabotage your chances of landing a job-interview. Here’s why –”

  3. You cram too much information • If you desperately trying to stick to a single-page resume – there’s a fair chance that the fonts are going to be too small or the margins, narrow. This isn’t appealing to the hiring managers. They are busy, and usually spend less than 6 seconds to scan a job application. If they require a magnifying glass to read yours – they’re most likely to skip it.

  4. You leave out vital information • You could leave out vital information in an effort to cram your resume to a single page. These are the kind of details that might distinguish you from other candidates. Don’t be solely focused on the length – concentrate on highlighting what’s relevant instead. There is a lot of flexibility when it comes to writing a two-page resume or more.

  5. It makes you look inexperienced • In the current employment industry, hiring managers expect professionals to have a resume that’s more than one page. Besides wanting to scan a polished and professional resume – they also expect it to have plenty of white space and proper formatting. If your resume is jam-packed and messy on a single page, it’s mostly going to sabotage your background.

  6. There are however exceptions to every rule. For instance, if you are a fresher, or a recent grad – and have only minimal work experience, your resume should be one page long. Anything more than that will showcase you as presumptuous. The more the industry experience – the lengthier your resume should be (and vice versa).
