“There is undoubtedly a time and place for a resume writing. Spending a few of hours cleaning up your CV before you start looking for work, or even once a year as a tune-up, is worthwhile.” Here are 5 resume-fixing tips!
1. Switch the Font Switch your resume's font to Helvetica, Arial, or Times New Roman when you're ready—in other words, make sure it's not too difficult to read (or stuck in Word's default Calibri). Using a common, clear typeface will make your resume more readable, even if it isn't the nicest (and less likely to be rejected by applicant tracking systems).
2. Remove “References Available Upon Request”They'll ask for references if they want them! Add a detail about your abilities or accomplishments in the extra space.
3. Delete the Resume Objective That dull boilerplate "I am a hardworking professional seeking employment in the [blank] field" is a bit obvious—why would you submit your CV otherwise? — It also takes up a lot of room.
4. Add Your LinkedIn Profile Replace it with a link to your LinkedIn profile, as well as any other appropriate social media accounts (Twitter for professional jobs, Instagram or Flickr for social media or creative jobs). Note: Never include Facebook links, no matter how clean you keep it.
5. Delete Irrelevant Data Any references to your date of birth, marital status, or religion should be left out. Employers can't ask for it because it's illegal for them to consider it when reviewing your application (at least in the United States) (and offering it makes you look a little clueless).
