  2. VALEDICTORIAN SELECTION • Students with a 3.8+ GPA after 7 semesters will be considered with the following formula: • 35% GPA • 35% Strength of Schedule • 30% ACT

  3. GRAD W/ DISTINCTION • 3.0 + one of the following: • Earn a nat’l recognized industry cert • Participate in Governor’s School • Participate in All State Music Organization • Be selected as a National Merit Finalist or Semi-finalist • Attain a 31 or higher composite on ACT • Earn 12 or more hours of college credit • Earn a 3 or higher on 2 AP exams

  4. GRAD W/ HONORS • Students who score at or above all of the ACT readiness benchmarks listed below will graduate with honors • English – 18 • Math – 22 • Reading – 22 • Science - 23

  5. DUAL ENROLLMENT • Students have several opportunities to take college courses through Roane State dual enrollment • Many of you are already signed up • ACT requirements – 18 in Eng, 19 in Reading, 19 in Math • See counselor after you get your ACT if you didn’t sign up and want to add

  6. NOW? WHAT SHOULD YOU DO... • RESEARCH ACADEMIC PROGRAMS • College Website • Available majors/degrees • Application requirements (Should I re-take ACT? Do I need a letter of recommendation?) • Look at Deadlines – Make a calendar • Costs and Scholarships • College visit GOAL IS TO HAVE SHORT LIST BY AUGUST

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO... • ACT – WHAT SCORE DO YOU NEED? • Enroll at RSCC with no remedial classes (score 18 in Eng, 19 in Math, 19 in Reading) • 27 – average at UTK • 23 – average at UTC • 32 – 34 – mid 50% at Vanderbilt (admitted 14% of applicants) • CHECK YOUR COLLEGE CHOICES FOR MORE INFO

  8. ADMISSIONS • TCAT-TNPromise will PAY!! • Competitive programs (Health Science – req ACTor HESI scores) • Waiting Lists (apply ASAP) • Apply Online – REMEMBER USERNAME AND PASSWORD!!!!! • Complete FAFSA & shot records reqs to get on waiting list

COMMUNITY COLLEGE (Roane State, Pellissippi, etc) TNPROMISE WILL PAY! • Transfer Pathways and Career Programs (check school website) • Apply online (takes approx. 15 min) • Window opens in FALL – community college day • Gather & mail Supplementary Items • Transcript request • Driver’s license & Shot record

  10. 4 – YEAR COLLEGE/UNIV • More complex applications • May require personal statement, letter of recommendation, or essay • Often have an EARLY deadline (Nov or Dec) • May have a separate deadline for scholarships (UTK is Nov 1) • May have deadline for LAST ACT accepted for admissions/scholarship consideration • Safe bet is Oct ACT, Dec accepted at some • EVERY SCHOOL IS DIFFERENT – KNOW YOUR SCHOOLS!!!!!

INSTITUTIONAL GUARANTEED SCHOLARSHIPS Examples for fall ’18(subject to change!!) • UTK – 3.8 wt core GPA + superscore: • 34-36 - $8,000/yrAPPLY • 31-33 - $5,000/yrBY • 29-30 - $3,000/yrDEC 15 • MTSU: 3.5 +25 ACT- $4,500/yr • Others for 25-36 ACT - APPLY BY DEC 1 • ETSU:3.5 (6thsem) + 27 ACT - $4,000/yrOthers for 25-36 ACT – APPLY BY DEC 15

  13. Lottery Scholarships • APPLICATION: ACT & FAFSA (Must have 3.0 GPA OR 21ACT —You must attend a qualified TN school) • AMOUNT: $3,500 4-yr.; $3,000 2-yr.; $2,000 TN Tech Center • 3.75AND29 ACT—Additional $1,000 • Additional amount possible based on income (up to $2,250—AGI < $36,000)

  14. TnPROMISESCHOLARSHIP ATTEND A COMMUNITY COLLEGE FOR “FREE”! • Last dollar scholarship program • Free tuition/fees at comm college • Class of 2019 - Deadline Nov 1, attend meetings next year, complete the FAFSA by Feb 1 (DATES subject to change!!!) • MORE INFO NEXT YEAR!!
