Tourist Attractions • Beautiful landscape • full of majestic volcanoes • vast expanses of jungle • several mountain ranges • Countless rivers, lakes and waterfalls • 2 peninsulas • Bays • 755 miles of coastline stretched along two oceans • Thanks to the almost 100 in of rain a year Costa Rica has excellent White Water Rafting. • Surfing is great thanks to geographical features. • And with numerous reefs is a great snorkeling and diving spot.

  3. Government • Type: Democratic Republic • Capital: San Jose • Made up of 7 provinces • Independence: September 15 1821(from Spain) • 3 Branch system • Judicial branch is elected by Legislative branch • Legislative branch is unicameral • President: Abel Pacheco de la Espirella

  4. Flag The flag was designed after the ideals of the French Revolution - freedom, equality, and brotherhood - and the colors of the French National Flag.

  5. Map • It is bordered by 2 countries. • Nicaragua and Panama

  6. Food • Main food staples are beef chicken and fish • Steak is somewhat expensive • Most Seafood is exported so locally it is expensive • Shrimp and lobsters are the big seafood items

  9. Money • The unit of Money is Costa Rican colon(symbol looks like a cent symbol) • 1 colon=100 centimos • 1997 exchange rate: $US1=214.48 colons

  11. President • This is the President of Costa Rica. • His name is Abel Pacheco. • He will be in power from 2002-2006 unless he is reelected for another term
