Requirements for running • To be on the BOD, you must: • Be OSNA/NSNA member • Be a nursing or pre-nursing student • Be in school for a majority of the elected term • Turn in a completed application • Pre-nursing students may run for all positions except President and Vice President
BOD Positions • Membership Director • Legislative Education Director • Breakthrough to Nursing Director • Professional Development Director • Community Outreach Director • Nominations and Elections Director • President • Vice President • Secretary • Treasurer • Convention Director • Media Director
Position Requirements • Each board member is required to attend monthly meetings either in person or electronically as well as OSNA events • Each board member is required to meet the requirements for their position outlined in the bylaws which can be found at http://www.oregonsna.org/bylaws.html • For detailed description of each position, requirements, and questions that will be asked at the House of Delegates visit http://www.oregonsna.org/run-for-office.html and click on position descriptions
pre-slated Candidates • Pre-slated candidates are the only candidates that are allowed to campaign • Complete applications must be received by the January 20thdeadline for pre-slating • Applications can be found online at http://www.oregonsna.org/run-for-office.html • Email applications to Leslie Edwards, Nominations and Elections Director at oregonsnanominations@gmail.com
Running from the floor • Prospective candidates are allowed to run from the floor if: • They submit a completed application after the January 20th deadline • They decide to run at convention • To run from the floor, a prospective candidates must: • Be nominated by a delegate at the House of Delegates • Submit an application no later than by one week following the convention, with all supporting materials received within two weeks • Candidates running from the floor are not allowed to campaign since there will be no free time between being nominated and elections
Write-in candidates • Write-in candidates are candidates who do not appear only the ballot, but who delegates may vote for by writing in that person’s name on the ballot • Election of these candidates is dependent that they meet the requirements for holding a state office • If a write-in candidate is elected, this person will be required to submit an application within a timeframe arranged by the elected individual and the Nominations and Elections Committee • Write-in candidates cannot campaign
House of Delegates (HOD) • The HOD will be held at the end of the Annual OSNA convention • Candidates running from the floor will be nominated • Pre-slated and nominated candidates will be allowed time for a brief statement/speech • Candidates will be asked two questions from the list of potential questions for each candidate • For a list of questions that will be asked at the House of Delegates visit http://www.oregonsna.org/run-for-office.html and click on position descriptions
Campaigning • Campaigning prior to pre-slating is only allowed at one’s own school • Once candidates are officially offered a pre-slated position by the Nominations and Elections Committee, they may begin campaigning and campaign prior to the House of Delegates at the annual OSNA convention • Campaigning is: • Allowed for pre-slated candidates • Allowed through verbal or written materials • Done at the candidate’s expense • Expected to be done in a professional, honest, and ethical manner • Write-in candidates and candidates running from the floor cannot campaign • Please review campaigning guidelines located on the OSNA website http://www.oregonsna.org/run-for-office.html
