  1. Cloud Computing R&D: Goals for 2012 ADC Cloud Computing Coordinators Cloud Computing R&D 26.04.2012

  2. Review • Quite a successful year: • Found our key use-cases to work on • Made good progress in the data processing use-cases • Overall, the use-cases we work on shouldn’t change • Recall https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/viewauth/Atlas/CloudcomputingRnD#Use_Cases • But in the short term, we should try to graduate some of our R&D work into production for ATLAS • This should be a discussion! Cloud Computing R&D 26.04.2012

  3. PanDA queues in the cloud • Cloud Sched and Helix Neb have shown that we can already run many hundreds of cores • We should keep increasing the scale, and take advantage of any free resources we have • Strategy: put MC prod in cloud to leave room for analysis on the grid. • Things to improve: • automation & monitoring Cloud Computing R&D 26.04.2012

  4. Analysis in the Cloud • We are still studying analysis in the cloud: • “Mainstream” Panda in Cloud with Scalr/CRV/ Personal Cloud Factory • Batch/PROOF studies • I/O needs to be optimized Cloud Computing R&D 26.04.2012

  5. Data and Storage • Data I/O : • Improve I/O strategies and evaluate bottlenecks • Continue XRootD caching • DDM & cloud storage integration • CERN IT-DSS has S3 storage available for testing • DDM team is just starting to evaluate its integration Cloud Computing R&D 26.04.2012

  6. Tier2 cloud interfaces • We should try to involve the sites in our R&D and understand their interests • Know what they are doing and foster communication between them • Evaluate the possibility of organizing a site workshop or participate in an existing workshop Cloud Computing R&D 26.04.2012

  7. People • Sergey Panitkin is a new Cloud R&D co-Coordinator • Dan departing • HenrikOhman to work on DA in the cloud: • Personal pilot factory, LxCloud, Amazon, benchmark WAN xrootd • Emil Bunyatov will join us shortly • To be determined Cloud Computing R&D 26.04.2012
