Government Policy On ICT • Telikom PNG is the general carrier and has the international gateway licence • Redeployed decommissioned Pac Rim West cable system (APNG-2) • 25mm diameter fibre optic cable • 1 800km long cable re-laid to link Australia & PNG • Cost PNG US$11 million (US$60m for new cable) • 1120Mbps from 16Mbps (Improve voice/data & internet)

  21. Government Policy On ICT SIX(6) KEY ELEMENTS • The government policy on ICT is to reform the ICT sector in the country and the transformation relies on 6 key elements: 1. Open Competition– open competition in all sectors will be supported by new licensing regime. International Gateway will be liberalized by October 2009
