  1. NFAH Image MRI: Design and Development of Near Field Acoustic Holography (NFAH) System Vinayak P. Dravid, Northwestern University, DMR 0420923 There is an urgent need to develop non-destructive techniques to reveal the presence of sub-surface features and embedded structures at nanoscale resolution. In this MRI development project, we have combined near-field scanning probe, acoustic waves and holography detection paradigm to construct an innovative new tool of near-field acoustic holography (NFAH), which enables sub-surface non-destructive imaging at nanoscale. A US patent application (#20060037401) is under consideration and a start-up company based on this invention is being launched, with the prospect for a turn-key tool useful in variety of quality control processes in microelectronics, polymer and cell biology fields. Schematic illustration of parallel probe NFAH for imaging buried structures and defects.
