  12. ITALY, LAND OF EMIGRATION Here comes the Italians…

  13. Italy land of emigration Between the Unification of Italy in 1861 and the Italian Economic Boom in 1960 about 24 millions Italians emigrated abroad. ( Italian Diaspora ) Poverty was the main reason for the diaspora. In Italy there was rural society so this didn't convince farmers to work the soil. Other reasons were the overpopulation of the Southern Italy after 1861, but for the first time, southern Italian families could have access to hospitals and have better hygienic conditions. This created a demographic boom and forced the new generations to emigrate, mostly to the Americas and Northern Europe. American emigration from Italy started between 1850 and 1900, but it was very important after the end of World war II. Italian people established in Usa, Brasile and Argentina. European emigration from Italy in the XX century interested countries like France, Switzerland, Germany and Belgium where arrived Italians from Sicily, Calabria, Abruzzo and Apulia. Nowadays Italian people in the world are about 80 millions.

  14. ITALY, LAND OF IMMIGRATION

  15. In the last few decades Italy has become a Land of immigration at the end of the 1970s People came to Italy from Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe and Slavic countries, much more are those from Albania and Romania. They escaped from their countries to look for work and better life conditions

  16. The first great exodus from Albania On7° March 1991 Italy became a ‘promised land’ fot thousand of Albanian. They arrived in Brindisi’s port. These people was called Albanian “boat people” because they arrived to the Apulian coast by boats of any kind.Italy wasn’t ready to host them and when they arrived to Brindisi they found temporary accomodation in churches and social centers.

  18. FOREIGNERS IN ITALY Concentration of foreigners in the various regions of Italy

  19. XENOPHOBIA‘fear of difference’ The presence of immigrants makes them dangerous people that are scary. The fear of the stranger is, at first, the clash with the unknown. It isn’t easy to see that the stranger contributes to the development of the country but something is happening in the consideration of foreigners by the Italians. In fact the majority believes that they are carriers of culture

  20. INTEGRATION Immigrants in Italy are imployed in low paid umble jobs which italians don’t want anymore In this countries most of them are temporarily, so they live in slums without their family and they work as caregivers and vendors Other immigrants managed to be integrated to local people and they have their own family and their own job
