  3. ISA-SP101 Scope • Scope: • This standard establishes software-based HMI design criteria for industrial control and information systems. Including: • Information display • Process visualization • User interaction • Performance • Documentation &Training

  4. ISA-SP101 Purpose • Purpose: • This standard defines requirements for the evaluation, design, development, implementation and maintenance of efficient, effective, safe, and user-friendly HMI’s.

  5. Key Areas for Discussion in Standard • Based on the topics identified in our Scope statement, the following areas will become the key categories of our standard and will be defined more specifically as we continue our work. • Definitions • Information display • Process visualization • User interaction • Performance • Documentation &Training

  6. Definitions • These will be compiled from existing ISA Standards.

  7. Information Display – a grid of barebones information • Event display • Screen density • Screen sizing • Computer generated graphic display • Alarming • Displaying of trends • Templates • Multiple screens • Strategy for converging Control and Information systems standards and more…

  8. Process Visualization – a visual representation of the process Topics will include (subject to change) • Event display • Screen density (symbol) • Alarming • Displaying of Trends • Templates (includes symbols) • Symbols or Objects • Lock Out/Tag Out • Coding – Colors, Objects • Symbol and equipment libraries and more…

  9. User Interaction • Navigation • Multiple screens • Remote access viewer • Location • Person authentication • Operating authority and more…

  10. Performance • Scripting or programming language • Derived Values, Calculations • Remote Stations, Peer to Peer • OPC • Time Synchronization • SOE and more…

  11. Documentation & Training • Online Documentation or display/Help System • Need to provide ability to present information to allow adequate validation and troubleshooting • A representative listing of the types of object properties available to help users identify where decisions need to be made about how to implement certain functions
