Early Age • Frederick Douglass was born on February 14, 1818 near Easton Maryland • He was the son of Harriet Bailey, although captain Aaron Anthony claimed owner ship of Douglass • He moved with his grandmother at a young age • In 1824 Douglass was separated from his grandmother and taken to live in on a large plantation of Colonel Edward Lloyd

  3. Growing Up • At age 12 or 13 Frederick Douglass bought his own copy of The Columbian Orator • With that he taught himself public speaking • In 1833 he organized secret schools for slaves • Then refused to submit to whipping • He joined and improved society of free black caulker and eventually bought his own freedom

  4. Slave Days Fredericks new owner rented him out to a farmer known as “The Slave Breaker” . He beat Frederick Douglass several times until Douglass finally stepped up and fought back. After that he never hit Frederick again.

  5. Frederick and four other slaves made plans to run away, but they were betrayed and got sent to prison in 1836 His final escape was in 1838 and made his way to New York where Mr. David Ruggles, took him in. Frederick’s Escape

  6. In 1836 he ends up falling in love with Anna Murray. Anna Murray was a free negro. Although she was a free negro she was the daughter of slaves. Wife Number One

  7. Frederick's kids • his first daughter name Rosetta was born on 1839 • His next child was born on 1840 it was their first son his name was Lewis Henery • His second son was born on 1842 his name was Frederick Douglass, jr. • His last son was named Charles Remond he was born in 1844

  8. Fredericks Last Daughter • In 1849 Annie Douglass was born • She was Frederick and Anna Douglass’ last daughter • She was the youngest out of all their kids • In 1859 at the age of eleven she died

  9. Wife Number Two • In 1842 Anne Murray died by suffering from a stroke • After her death Frederick Douglass went into depression • In 1884 Frederick Douglass married Helen Pitts • Pitts worked for Fredrick's secretary when he was recorder of deeds • The marriages affected Douglass’ family friends and public deeply

  10. North Star • December 3,1847 he started a newspaper called the North Star • It was not only used to denounce rights but it was also used for the Women's Rights Act • He later then changed the name from the North Star to the Frederick Douglass Paper

  11. Frederick Douglass’ Death • He died on February 20th 1895 • His death place was in Washington D.C the Untied States • He lived to be 83 years old
