  1. Trash picking robot- By Mahdi Sadr

  2. Problem Statement? • Problem Statement: • The problem is that Qatar as a country is nice but when it comes to littering it is quite bad. I live in ECCH compound and when I go outside on my bike I see cans in the park and Workers have to clean it up. This isn’t fair for them and most of the time I clean it up. The hot sun makes this job harder to do. Also they can be doing more important and sophisticated jobs. Now this can lead to a bad environment. I've had thought about it and I have a plan. Now I have a plan that will help highly in our compound, I will build a ROBOT.

  3. Design Brief • Design Brief: • I will design and create a robot for my community that will pick up litter and put it in the recycling bin autonomously. so that the workers don’t have to pick it up in the sun. Better yet the robot will be solar powered so the hot sun will give it charge. Not only am I helping the community by building a robot to pick up litter but I am using the sun as a source, completely eco friendly.

  4. Design Specifications+Testing • My product must have • It should have wheels to move around easier. • It should have a compressor so it can fit more garbage in it so it wont have to go to base to dump it. • It should have a solar powered engine so it can move around and have charge. Put it in the sun to see if it will work. • It should have a Nimh battery or another kind so it can store power. • Accelerometer so it can sense movements. • Color sensors so it can see color, useful when picking garbage. I will have a red tin and blue and I will ask it to pick the red one. • Current sensor so it knows where electricity is as it may charge itself of avoid dangers. I will ask it to plug itself in to test this. • It should have gears and levers to make it pick up stuff and work. I will test this by asking it to pick up trash at different weights.

  5. What I would like my product to have? • I would like my product to have: • Mercury tilt switch so it can know earths gravitational pull and analyze it, perfect for balancing. • To talk just for fun. • Or make it a portable USB.

  6. Research Example 1 • Example 1: Solar big belly Trash cans. • It is a solar trash picking robot developed by big belly solar co. It was developed in march 7 2011. It was first released in new York city to help the trash problem. It works when someone throws trash in it is compresses it to hold 3 times more trash than is can fit. When fully charged it can stay on for 3 day without the sun.

  7. Research Example 2 • Example 2: Recycling robot • A recycling robot designed by Finnish company Zen robotics has introduced a recycling robot. This robot can separate metal with other chemicals. It is in a laboratory in Finland and is designed to make a greener future. It already helped reduce pollution by 30 percent in Finland and it is hoping to help more in the upcoming years.

  8. Analysis 1 • Positive attributes about big belly robot • 1: It is eco friendly and is solar powered • 2: It saves lots money on the long run • 3: It helps the environment and holds more trash. • Negative attributes • It Costs a lot of money • It cant walk around and pick trash and cant move.

  9. Analysis 2 • Positive attributes: • It can recycle • It can save lots of money • Has great impact on society • Negative attributes: • It is expensive • It is only available in Finland

  10. Analysis 3 • Positive attributes • It can travel around • It is quite social • It can grow to help society • Negitive attributes • It is expensive • It isnt solar

  12. Research Example 3 • Example 3: Dust Cart • Dustcart was created by the company called dust bot. It was made to help Italy's pollution problem. Even though it doesn’t completely solve it, it is a start. It works when someone wants to clean a trash pile they call the dust bot give it its ID and then it go to the destination. It can even identify was plastic or metal it is.
