  4. What is propaganda??? • Appeals to the emotions rather than the intellect. • Information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote, publicize or sell.

  5. Name Calling • links a person, or idea, to a negative symbol.

  6. Transfer • presents a positive image or idea and attaches the positive feelings to the product, person or idea being promoted.

  7. Glittering Generalities • Uses positive terms • Goal is to make viewer approve and accept without examining the evidence.

  8. Testimonial 1. When a famous person endorses a product, person or idea. 2. When the consumer gets an account of how wonderful a product is or what it can do from someone who has used it.

  9. Bandwagoning • The idea that everyone is doing it and that you should too!

  10. Fear • playing on the audience's fears, this technique hopes to redirect attention and encourage steps that can be taken to reduce the fear it creates.

McCain spoke about how the policies in his opponent's campaign effected "Joe the Plumber" in a negative way.
