  2. Concrete Details (CD's) • Use a transition word • Use the quote. • Insert the context. • Use proper notation (Curtis, 71).

  3. Context • The circumstances or facts that surround a particular event, situation, etc. • The "when" and "what" of a situation.

  4. Highlight the Context Highlight the context you write in a CD sentence. A quote by itself is NOT a CD sentence.

  5. Stating Context with Lead-in Words Here are some possible lead-in words with which you can start your sentence: When After Since Whileas Before Although.

  6. Context Shown in Blue After Juan’s mother died, the mistress gave him his mother’s earring, “it cleans the blood to wear an earring.”(Trevino, 6).

  7. Context Shown in Blue When Juan questioned Diego’s painting of the pope with such an unkind expression, Diego replied, “I rather think he is a man enough to be pleased that I have seen him as tough and strong.” (Trevino p.137)
