The IB Diploma Programme • Theory of Knowledge (TOK) • Challenges students to be aware of subjective bias and develop ability to analyze evidence • Assessed through written essays and presentation • Extended Essay (EE) • a research paper not exceeding 4,000 words • Creativity, Action & Service (CAS) • Participation and documentation of 150 hours over range of activities within the two years of the Diploma Programme

The IB Diploma Programme • Assessment in IB • All courses include internal assessments (IAs) • IAs contribute 20% - 50% of final grade • Coursework components generally will be moderated by IBO • Final assessment is in the form of written papers at the external examinations conducted in November of Pre-U2 year • TOK/EE/CAS requirements must be met

The IB Diploma Programme • IB Grading • For each subject, students receive a final grade from 1 to 7 • From 6 subjects, a maximum possible of 42 points • Good performance at EE and TOK will earn a bonus of up to 3 points • Maximum perfect score of 45 points • Award of IB Diploma • A minimum total of 24 points, and satisfactory completion of the three core requirements (TOK, EE, CAS)

The HCIS IB Foundation Programme • To be offered from 2012 for students who have completed Secondary Three level • Customised curriculum based on the IB Diploma Programme • Students on the IBF will not sit for the IGCSE examinations • Progression to the IB Diploma Programme on completing requirements • Likely to be 1 class (availability of IB trained teachers)

  17. The HCIS IB Foundation Programme • Selection Criteria • Secondary 3 academic performance (70% overall as guide) • Good underlying foundation in 7 subjects being offered at IBF • Good habits and attitude towards learning • Strong teacher recommendations
