  2. Why Filmmaking? • Interested in film production • Want to learn how to make a high quality video • Interested in artistic expression

History of Filmmaking • Film is currently a rich, prevalent and worldwide industry. • Several people contributed to the progression of filmmaking. • Chinese cultures shadow plays • Camera obscura • 1659 Christiaan Huygens invents the magic lantern • 1826 Joseph Nicephore Niepce made the first photograph • William K.L Dickson invented the film apparatus

Major steps in the progression of filmmaking • 130 A.D. - Ptolemy discovers the persistence of vision • I659- Dutch scientist Christiaan Huygens invents the magic lantern • 1882- Etienne-Jules Marey invented the chronophotographic gun • 1890’s-Thomas Edison’s leading inventor William K.L. Dickson invents the film apparatus • 1894- Thomas Edison and W.K.L Dickson invent kinetoscope

Continued… • 1894 – Lumiere brothers invent cinematographe-Lumiere • 1895 Charles Francis Jenkins and Thomas Armat invent the Vitascope • 1896- Thomas Edison partners with Thomas Armat and presents the first motion picture on the public screen on the vitascope • 1902- special effects were introduced • 1926- Warner Brothers introduced the first movie with a synchronized film score, Don Juan

  7. How it ties into my research? • I am filming students and creating a movie using editing software • a modern form of filmmaking.

  8. My mentor • My mentor is Don Allred • He owns and runs a video production studio at his home.

  9. Product • Spent 15 hours with my mentor • I felt it connected to my research because I was putting together my own movie through a process of filming and editing and my research is all about the process it took to get film to its modern state.
