Notes • A quarter note gets 1 count • Two quarter notes equal one half note • An eighth note gets ½ count • Two eighth notes equal one quarter note

Scales • Certain notes placed in order are scales • Example of a scale is the notes C D E F G A B • Accidentals are used to raise or lower the note one half step • Sharp – raise • Flat – lower • Click on the scale below and listen to it being played
Counting • Music is divided into measures • Typically a measure has 4 counts with a quarter receiving one count
