What Causes Slightly Elevated Prolactin Levels and How Can You Get Rid of It?

Prolactin is a hormone released from the pituitary gland that helps produce milk after pregnancy. However, a higher level of prolactin causes numerous health problems, and it can lead to prolactinoma, a non-cancerous tumor formed due to a genetic condition. Prolactinoma is common in women more than in men. For more information visit :
https://redcliffelabs.com/delhi/tests/prolactin-test
1. The immune system, nervous system, uterus, and mammary gland produce prolactin in the body. An elevated level of prolactin is found in pregnant women or breastfeeding women. Hyperprolactinemia is when the rate of normal prolactin levels increases, which is associated with infertility problems. Below are the causes and symptoms of elevated prolactin levels and solutions to get rid of them. The Reasons Behind Elevated Prolactin Level The causes of the increase in the level of prolactin are as follows:- ●Strenuous exercise ●Stress ●Anxiety ●Sexual intercourse ●Mild chest injury ●Medication ●Medication for treating nausea and vomiting ●Medicines for high blood pressure ●Kidney disease

 2. ●Thyroid disease The symptoms of elevated prolactin levels vary in men and women. Symptoms in Women:- ●Irregular period or no period ●Lower sexual drive ●Dryness of vagina ●Painful sexual intercourse ●Infertility Symptoms in Men:- ●Erectile dysfunction ●The lower level of testosterone or libido ●Ejaculation of milk from nipples ●Headache A Prolactine test is recommended when you experience such symptoms to get the exact level of prolactin in the body. How is Prolactin Related to Mood Swings? According to recent studies in 2021, it has been found that elevated levels of prolactin are linked to MDD (Major Depressive Disorder). It regulates the level of anxiety and stress, which is accompanied by an increase in weight gain and psychosis. Major Depressive Disorder affects the nervous and endocrine system and may also hamper the production level of prolactin. Interpret Elevated Level of Prolactin

 3. How do doctors interpret high levels of prolactin? The doctor diagnose elevated levels of prolactin with the help of a prolactin blood test. If a person is diagnosed with a high level of prolactin, the doctor then processed with an imaging test to get more brief information on elevated hormone levels. The doctor may also g for an MRI scan test to get a clear picture of the pituitary gland while a person may also undergo a CT scan. With the help of scans and tests, the doctor knows about the presence of prolactin and its rate. Treatment for Higher Level of Prolactin The treatment depends upon the causes of the increased level of prolactin in the body. People who have elevated levels of prolactin but don’t show any symptoms generally don’t need treatment. The treatments are as follows:- ●Certain medications control the body's prolactin level and prevent prolactinoma tumors. ●If the medication doesn't work, the doctor recommends surgery with the help of which doctor removes the tumor. ●Radiation therapy is another option for curing prolactinoma and reducing its level. If you are diagnosed with prolactinoma, then move to your nearest health center and get the proper medication and treatment so that it does not affect you further. Surgery:- Surgery helps in removing prolactinoma, and it is the option for doctors to use when medication fails to work. There are two types of surgery:-

 4. ●Nasal Surgery:- In nasal or transsphenoidal surgery, the tumor is removed through the nasal cavity. The complication rate is low in this surgery as it does not involve the region of the brain and leaves no cuts or scars. ●Transcranial Surgery:- This surgery is needed when the tumor has extended to the brain cells and the surgery helps in removing a tumor through the skull. The result of the surgery depends upon the size and location of the tumor and also on the rate of prolactin level before beginning the surgery. The skill and experience of the surgeon matter a lot while conducting the surgery. An MRI scan portrays how much the tumor has extended and whether it is safe to remove it. The tumor can appear again after the surgery and the person needs to continue with regular medication to keep the level of prolactin intact in the body. Ferritin Test During pregnancy, the level of iron also increases, which causes various health issues, while sometimes there appears a condition of lack of iron. Both conditions can have an adverse effect on the body. Hence ferritin blood test helps get the status of the iron level in the body so that you can take precautions beforehand. Only taking medication won’t help; it requires you to take iron-rich foods to keep the normal rate of iron in the body. Iron plays an essential role in maintaining the metabolism rate, hence must be present in the body in the right quantity. Are you in need of help? Are you currently facing the same symptoms? You might need the help of the best diagnostic center to bring you back to a normal state of health. The prolactin blood test helps get an accurate test report with a precise range of prolactin levels.

 5. After the test, you can go to the doctor who will suggest you the proper treatment and surgery. However, you need to take medication regularly to be safe from an elevated level of prolactin and its harmful effect.
