  3. Larry and SCP – the beginning… • In 1988, the Society for Consumer Psychology incorporated as an independent entity. Larry was a “founding member”. • Larry co-chaired the 1999 annual conference, a one day affair attached to the winter AMA meetings. • In 2001, Larry was approached by David Schumann and John Mowen to become the Executive Officer, a new position created to support SCP. • The rest is history…

As Executive Officer • Larry inherited an organization that had $66K in the bank (and 564 members) in 2001. • To make SCP more financially solvent, Larry leveraged his life experiences as an industrial engineer, accountant, director of finance, software developer, expert witness, entrepreneur, and an academic who studies pricing. • He scrutinized costs, put a new publisher agreement in place for JCP, and has negotiated HARD (!!) with every conference hotel. • Today SCP has $870K in the bank with almost 1000 members • ROI = 15.4%!

What has made Larry a GREAT EO? • He thrives on finding solutions but stays humble • He prioritizes and commits (married to his wife Ellen for 45 years, devoted to family) • He knows when to spend and when to save • He has a poker face in negotiations but a ready smile. (Kent Monroe and Dhruv Grewal both commented on what an extraordinary individual he is, both as a co-author and as a friend.) • He is calm under fire! (even when there are hurricanes blowing in on the conference site, conference attendees are in foreign territory without a passport and can’t get back on shipboard, and even when the contracted hotel has gone bankrupt.)

  6. So while Larry has been the consummate professional … • He has also been a bit of a rebel… enjoying the experiences of life along the way. • He got kicked out of high school twice • He has played with 4 rock bands • He has a passion for fast cars
