Expectations of Beginning Teachers What beginning teachers expect to gain from the teaching profession: • Interpersonal-affective Support– those types of interpersonal interactions with significant others which had the effect of providing a positive emotional up-lift that in ways heightened their own sense of purpose and self-mage. • Acquire Recognition – acknowledgment, appreciation, and understanding through communicating with, and the involvement of others . . .

Expectations of Beginning Teachers What beginning teachers expect to gainfrom the teaching profession: • Professional-affective Support – those types of interpersonal interactions with significant others that were professional in nature which provided beginning teachers with a feeling of shared responsibility, of community and camaraderie • Acquire Resources – school resources, shared materials, curricula . . . • Acquire Remuneration – money, preparation time, holidays . . .

Expectations of Beginning Teachers What beginning teachers expect to gain from the teaching profession: • Organizational Support – in what and how to teach, in working with children and parents, and in organizational matters. • Acquire Role Information – for role adjustment and development . . . • Acquire Feedback – supervision, monitoring, planning . . . • Acquire Assessment – evaluation, judgement . . .

Expectations of Beginning Teachers What beginning teachers expect to give to the teaching profession: • Personal-Professional Effort – in preparing materials for teaching, in teaching children, in extra-curricular activities, and in thinking about teaching. • Giving Ideas and Being Innovative – programs, classroom arrangements . . . • Giving to the Children – caring, assisting, leading . . . • Giving to the School Organization – implementing school policy, promoting school initiatives, involvement . . . • Giving of One’s Self – emotion, stamina . . .
