4. Starting PositionPlate Umpire 1’ off the line and 15’ up the line from home plate Alternate sides between inningsFollow the catcher Sweep the plate after warm-up pitches Hustle to your position behind the catcher Softball Canada Three Umpire FP System

5. Starting PositionBase Umpires Umpire nearest the rubber sweeps the pitcher’s rubber at the end of each inning and before the pitcher takes his or her warm up pitches BUs start 1’ off of line When the inning starts take positions 15’-18’ beyond 1st and 3rd bases and 1’-3’ in foul territory Softball Canada Three Umpire FP System

6. No Runners Ball Hit to Infield Plate Umpire Trail the runner one third of the way to 1st base Move to position for call at 3rd base if necessary U1 Move 1 – 2 steps into fair territory U3 Hustle towards 2nd base avoiding infielders Softball Canada Three Umpire FP System

7. Plate Umpire No Runners Ball Hit to Outfield-no ump out- Trail the BR down 1stbase line Move to position for call at 3rd base if necessary U1 Hustle to infield for play on BR at 1st PU goes to 3rd base cover home 3rd base extend is optional for throws from right field U3 Hustle inside diamond to position take BR at 2nd Softball Canada Three Umpire FP System

8. Plate Umpire R1 Ball Hit to Infield Trail the runner one third of the way to 1st base Move to position for call at 3rd base if necessary U1 12 – 15 ft beyond 1st base Move 1 – 2 steps into fair territory If PU goes to 3rd base cover home U3 20’ from the 2nd base in line with 2nd & 3rd Move a couple of steps towards 2nd base staying outside base path Softball Canada Three Umpire FP System

R1 Ball Hit to Outfield -no ump out- Plate Umpire Trail the runner one third of the way to 1st base Move to position for call at 3rd base U1 Hustle to infield for play on BR at 1st If PU goes to 3rd base cover home 3rd base extend is optional for throws from right U3 Hustle inside diamond to take all runners at 2nd base Take BR at 1st if U1 rotates to plate Softball Canada Three Umpire FP System

Plate Umpire R2 Ball Hit to Infield Move out from behind catcher watch BR to 1st Move to position for play at plate U1 Behind F4 and clear of any movement by F4 Move towards first play at 2nd or 1st Responsible for all plays at 1st and 2nd base U3 15’-18’ behind 3rd Move a couple of steps into fair territory for call at 3rd Softball Canada Three Umpire FP System

Plate Umpire R2 Ball Hit to Outfield -no ump out- Move out from behind catcher watch BR to 1st Move to position for play at plate U1 Behind F4 Hustle to the infield watch R2 tag up Responsible for all plays at 1st and 2nd base U3 15’-18’ behind 3rd Hustle down the line and into the infield take all plays at 3rd base Softball Canada Three Umpire FP System

Plate Umpire R3 Ball Hit to Infield Move out from behind catcher watch BR to 1st Move to position for play at plate U1 15’-18’ behind 1st Move 1 – 2 steps into fair territory Take all plays at 1st and 2nd U3 15’-18’ feet behind 3rd Move a couple of steps into fair territory for call at 3rd Softball Canada Three Umpire FP System

Plate Umpire R3 Hit Ball to Outfield Move out from behind catcher watch BR to 1st Move to position for play at plate U1 15’-18’ behind 1st Hustle to infield Take all plays at 1st and 2nd U3 15’-18’ feet behind 3rd Watch R3 tag up Move to the infield for plays at 3rd base Softball Canada Three Umpire FP System

22. Umpire Going Out on Fly Balls to Outfield No One On Base Ball hit to right field U1 goes out PU –from rt. fielder to fence trails BR and takes calls at 1st and will return to plate for any call U3 crosses diamond and takes calls at 2nd and any call at 3rd Softball Canada Three Umpire FP System

23. Umpire Going Out R1 U1 OUTon Fly Balls to Outfield Coverage: - 2 ump system U1 to catch U3 to infield 1st and 2nd PU watch BR to 1st and move to hold for potential call at 3rd or plate Softball Canada Three Umpire FP System

24. Umpire Going Out R1 U3 OUTon Fly Balls to Outfield Fly Ball to left Coverage U3 out on fly to make call U1 in diamond - tag on R1 U1 moves for R1 and 2nd PU watches BR to 1st then to hold & picks up R1 at 3rd or plate Softball Canada Three Umpire FP System

25. Umpire Going Out R2 U1 OUTon Fly Balls to Outfield Fly Ball to right Coverage U1 out to catch U3 across to tag –up on R2 and BR at 1st and 2nd PU - watch BR to 1st - go to hold and be prepared to call R2 at 3rd or plate Softball Canada Three Umpire FP System

26. Umpire Going Out R2 U3 OUTon Fly Balls to Outfield • Coverage • U3 out on fly ball • U1 tag-up on R2 • make all calls at 1st and 2nd • PU go to hold and be prepared to move into fair for call at 3rd or back to plate Softball Canada Three Umpire FP System

27. Umpire Going Out R3 U1 OUTon Fly Balls to Outfield • Coverage: • U1 out to make call • U3 across diamond and responsible for BR at 1st and 2nd • PU move to hold • take tag-up of R3 • take R3 at plate Softball Canada Three Umpire FP System

Umpire Going Out R1 R2 U1 OUTon Fly Balls to Outfield • Coverage: • U1 out to make call • U3 across diamond and take tag-ups of R1 and R2 • take all calls at 1st and 2nd. • PU move left of plate and watch BR to 1st • go to hold • be prepared to go to plate or to 3rd for call Softball Canada Three Umpire FP System

Umpire Going Out R1 R2 U3 OUTon Fly Balls to Outfield • Coverage: • U3 out to make call • catch, fair, foul • U1 move in diamond • responsible for tag up on R2 • all calls at 1st and 2nd. • take BR into 3rd • PU to hold position • -be ready to move to plate or 3rd to assist Softball Canada Three Umpire FP System

30. Umpire Going Out R2 R3 U1 OUT on Fly Balls to Outfield • Coverage: • U1 out to make call • U3 move in diamond • tag-up on R2 • if caught ball take R2 into 3rd • if not caught make calls on BR at 1st, 2nd and 3rd. • PU move left and watch BR to 1st • -go to hold -watch tag up on R3 Softball Canada Three Umpire FP System
