THE FRENCH LAW CRITERIA TO ACCESS TO THE PROTECTED TITLE OF « PSYCHOTHERAPIST » Basic academic criteria: - a medicine doctorate (whatever is the practice : general practicioner or specialist) - or a master in psychology (but every specialization and not only a master in clinical psychology or in psychopathology) - or a master in psychoanalisis (there is only one master in psychoanalisis in France but it’s a research master) - or to be on the list of a psychoanalists association 

  2. 2) Second criterion for the french law : - to follow a complementary theoretical and practical training in clinical psychopathology defined by the application decree of the law in 2010, training for which the number of the hours depends from the basic training. This training is supposed to obtain and to validate knowledge related to: - the human being development, his psychological functionment and the psychic processes; - the discrimination criteria of the main psychiatric disorders; - the different theories connected with psychopathology; - the main approaches used in psychotherapy
