  2. 31/10/11 Performing Shakespeare By the end of the lesson you will have: Level 5 created a dark and gloomy mood of Act 1 scene 1 with voice and body sounds Level 7 used drama techniques confidently tocreate a sinister and foreboding atmosphere in Act 1 scene 1 Level 6 used drama techniques to show the dark and gloomy atmosphere of Act 1 scene 1 LO:To experiment with voices and movement to create or present different characters in performance. Themes: revenge; hesitation; family conflict; power; responsibility

  3. Watch the video clip and complete your grid Act 1, scene 1 – an open place. Thunder and lightning. Enter three witches. FIRST WITCH: When shall we three meet again? In thunder, lightning, or in rain? SECOND WITCH: When the hurly-burly’s done, When the battle’s lost and won. THIRD WITCH: That will be ere the set of sun. FIRST WITCH: Where the place? SECOND WITCH: Upon the heath. THIRD WITCH: There to meet with Macbeth. Act 1 Scene 1 of Macbeth - 1971 2006 and 2010

  4. Sound Circle: create a storm by using voice and body sounds (clapping, clicking and sshhhing) Click on the picture to listen to the sound

  5. In groups of 4 create a soundscape to create the mood or atmosphere of the scene • Try experimenting with other sounds, using furniture and other objects around the room. • Over the sound of the storm you have created together, you need to add in the witches’ lines (see sheet). Perform your soundscape to the rest of the class.
