  2. FORGIVENESS Forgiveness is of incredible importance!!!! (Pastor John MacArthur) Forgiveness is NOT: Understanding Denial Toleration Forgetting Good Feeling Dependent on them forgiving you – because – ONLY GOD CAN FORGIVE SIN

  3. Forgiveness Is: Giving up our “right” to hold someone in debt to us for what they’ve done and paying the price ourselves. "Forgiving is not blaming another for your pain." Release from debt and a restoration (fixing) of relationship (when possible) Forgiveness is transferring the guilt of an offense away from the offender There is always a cost to the one forgiving – what is the cost? Pride dies. Fairness dies. Rights die. Self-Pity dies. The fun of being mad dies. You die a little. Maybe you lose money, honor, position, etc.

  4. Why Bother To Forgive? • John MacArthur – every counseling situation he’s had – came down to lack of forgiveness – of others or one’s self • Gets things out of the way so we can have the relationship we once had • It’s a command – by God • Who wants a good marriage? How many marriages do you know of that really impress you? There is no such thing as a great marriage – except by people who have dealt with their past. • Bitterness is a result of being unable to forgive • Future – God will use this “bad” experience in your life to help many others going through similar things

  5. Forgiveness is made possible when we begin to realize how much we’ve been forgiven by Jesus Christ. CHALLENGE Ask God to show you how much you were forgiven by Jesus. Ask God to reveal to you who you need to forgive. Ask God to reveal to you who you need to ask to forgive you.
