One day, when my teacher took us to the pool to teach us how to swim in my PE class, I was too scared to go into the water even though they tried to persuade me several times. I was so frustrated that I almost accepted the fact that I would never learn to swim well. It was my classmates’ comfort and encouragement as well as my teacher’s advice and instruction that helped me gather my courage to overcome the fear and finally I joined them and enjoyed myself swimming in the pool. It wasn’t long before I swimmer in our class. Introduction:the importance of encouragement Problem: fail to swim With other’s encouragement, solve the problem: succeed

  18. First revised draft -- accuracy I’m Mary, a high school student with an optimistic attitude towards life. Besides, I’m willing to help others who are in need. I can well remember a story in my mind. It is also one thing I’m proud of. One day, I was wandering on the street. Suddenly, a boy who was crying caught my eyes. I stopped to ask him what had happened. Then, I knew he had lost his way and hoped to find his mother. I helped him to call the police. Then his mother came and thanked me a lot. 20. Second revised draft. I’m Mary, a high school student with an optimistic attitude towards life. Besides, I’m willing to help others who are in need. I can well remember a story in my mind, which is also one of the things I’m proud of. One day, I was wandering on the street when suddenly a crying boy caught my eyes. After asking him what had happened, I knew he had lost his way and hoped to find his mother. Without hesitate, I called the police. Luckily, his mother came in the end, who had been so worried and thanked me a lot. I found it was not too hard to help others. I’m proud of myself. I certainly believe that helping others can make me happier.

  21. Third revised draft-- brevity and sincerity I’m an optimistic girl who is always willing to help those in need. I can well remember an incident I went through during my Senior One school life. On my way home I happened to see a child crying by the side of the street. It seemed to me that he had lost his way. How worried his mother would feel about him, I thought. After finding out his address through a couple of questions and answers, I took him home. Seeing us, his mother was moved to tears, saying many thanks to me. As an old saying goes, “roses given, fragrance in hand.” From what I experienced, I ‘m firmly convinced that helping others will benefit yourself as well.

  22. One Thing I’m Proud of I still remember how I became a good table tennis player. The first day I went to high school, I saw some of my classmates playing table tennis. Amazed at how skillful they were, I was determined to be just as good.Later on, I often watched them carefully to learn their techniques. Then I kept practicing until I became confident enough to challenge the good players. At the end of the term I became one of the best players in my class. I am really proud of this experience, because it helps me realize that we all can fulfill our potential and achieve our goals through hard work. It also helps me better understand the proverb "Practice makes perfect.”

  23. One thing I’m proud of happened when I was in junior school. Our school would organize a music contest. As I was fond of music, I asked my teacher if I could organize the activity and to my joy, she joyfully accepted. Feeling much responsibility and pressure, though, I buried myself in the contest. I picked our favourite song and arranged every classmate’s role to call on everyone to participate in. Moved by my passion, everyone in our class devoted himself to the activity. During that time, tired as I felt, I was almost the latest one to leave school. At last, we won the first prize! Everyone appreciated my contribution, however, the smiles on my classmates and teacher’s faces were the best reward to me, which I’m really proud of! Through this thing, I learned how to be a good organizer and the real meaning of commitment. 28

  24. One thing I’m Proud of Poor in English as I was three years ago, I made up my mind to improve it. For one thing, I chose excellent articles to recite, which can help me express myself more smoothly. For another, I made use of my spare time to enrich my vocabulary, which I thought could lay a solid foundation for my further English study. As time went by, I achieved rapid progress in English. I learned from this experience that nothing is impossible for a willing heart. If we set a goal, don’t wait for the success to come by itself, but spare no effort to achieve it. I am proud of myself that I kept carrying on however tough the difficulty was and overcame it with my determination and hard work. 25

  25. One thing I’m proud of I’m proud that I have finished the 1500-metre race. It was a hot summer when we held the sport meeting. To improve myself, I took part in the 1500-metre race. It might be the hardest thing for me because I wasn’t good at running at all. After-finishing 1000 meters, I felt extremely thirsty and breathless. When I set out to give up the race, I heard my classmates were encouraging me , so I struggled to finish the race. Although I didn’t get any prize, I think it’s a victory I feel proud that I have finished what seems impossible for me, which indicates that “where there is a will, there Is a way.” Don’t give up and we will succeed. 24

  26. One thing I’m proud of Everyone has one thing that he or she takes pride in. For me, I think my characteristic optimism is my strength. Once I met failure in the exam of math but I didn’t lose my confidence. I believe in myself that I can make it. Besides, one failure can’t prove I’m not good in math. Therefore, I encourage myself and manage to cheer my math cells up. It is the optimism that help me meet the success. Because of the optimism, I can face bravely to the difficulty and in the future, it will guide me toward a better life. I think success is around the corner if you have optimism. 20

  27. A is to B what C is to D A对于B而言正如C对于D一样 Air is to us what water is to fish. What C is to D, that A is to B. What exercise is to the body, that reading is to the mind. ______________________________________ What blood vessel is to a man’s body, that railway is to a country. ______________________________________ Exercise is to the body what reading is to the mind. I volunteered to do it by saying “My deskmate is an eccentric boy whose clothes never fit him.” Hearing this, the whole class burst into laughter and my deskmate’s face turned red. After class, I learned from the teacher that my deskmate would have dropped out of school if he hadn’t been helped by others. My mindless words must have hurt him deeply. Not until then did I realize words could be powerful in both positive and negative ways. We should avoid hurting others if we can’t always be encouraging when we speak.
