How do International Partners and Missionaries describe their understanding of partnership?

  • Do you think this is a good way to do global mission today? Why?
  • How does this type of partnership differ from how our churches were engaged in global mission 100 years ago?
  • What are some other “models” you have seen churches using for global mission and why do you think Global Ministries is committed to a partnership model? What are advantages & disadvantages of these different models?
  • If someone from another church asked how your church engages in global mission, how would you describe, in your own words, the concepts of partnership and critical presence?

1 st scripture
1st Scripture
  • LK 4:16 He went to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, and on the Sabbath day he went into the synagogue, as was his custom. And he stood up to read. 17 The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written:

LK 4:18 "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor.

He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives

and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free,

LK 4:19 to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."

LK 4:20 Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on him, 21 then he began to say to them, "Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing."

2 nd scripture
2nd Scripture

MT 25:34 "Then the King will say to those at his right hand, `Come, you that are blessed by my Father; inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.'

MT 25:37 "Then the righteous will answer him, `Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? 38 And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? 39 and when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?'

MT 25:40 “And the King will answer them, `Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these, who are members of my family, you did it to me.'

what do you think these bible texts teach us about doing mission
What do you think these Bible texts teach us about doing mission?
  • How do you think they should shape our definition of critical presence?
  • As you look around the world, who are the people in precarious situations and the “least of these” for us today?
  • How can we reach out more effectively to them?
let us pray together
Let us Pray together!
  • Loving God, show us how we can be more like Jesus in reaching out to the “least of these” in our back yard, but also to the ends of the earth. Amen!
