Definition • Another form of metaphor, very similar to synecdoche, in which the thing chosen for the metaphorical image is closely associated with the subject with which it is to be compared.
Example of Metonymy • “Capitol Hill passed the new legislature.” • “Capitol Hill” is a symbol for congress
Why Use Metonymy? • Metonymy makes the phrase that it is used in more descriptive • Better imagery
