What is storytelling?. Storytelling can be simply reading a story to someone, performing it, or even telling a friend about something that was on the television last night. Some of the most powerful stories we remember are those that were told to us, by a family member, or friend.

  1. What is storytelling? Storytelling can be simply reading a story to someone, performing it, or even telling a friend about something that was on the television last night. Some of the most powerful stories we remember are those that were told to us, by a family member, or friend.

National Storytelling Week at Willowfield... • There are lots of exciting activities to celebrate National Storytelling Week at Willowfield, so have a look at the list below and come and celebrate with us. • *Take part in the Y7 and 8 Reading Wall competition or our whole school short story competition. • *Visit the Library on Wednesday 1st February, where there will be a fantastic book sale, with many books on sale from just 10p! (12:55-1:35). • *Get reading and join the GCSE revision guide sale in the library at lunchtime Wednesday 21st February 2012. • Come and join Creative Writing Club on Monday lunch times (1pm-1:40) for some storytelling. Come along to hear fascinating and imaginative stories, written and told by the CWC Members. Why not take the challenge of telling a mystery story to others? Every student who attends will have their name entered into a prize draw! • *Put a suggestion in our library suggestion box for a new library book or way in which we can improve our library service.

  3. Short Story competition For this competition you will need to write a short story based on one of the Olympic or Paralympic values… Friendship Respect Equality Determination Inspiration Courage Excellence Hand in your story to your English teacher by Friday 26th February for your chance to win a great prize.

  4. As we are a Humanities Specialist College, why not think about some of the topics you have studied in Citizenship: *Human rights *Global issues, including topics such as refugees *Children affected by conflict and War *Identity *Diversity *Community *Migration Could you use any of these as your topic for your story on one or more of the Olympic or Paralympic values?

  5. Remember you are only being asked to write a short story, so it doesn’t have to be long at all. If you need some more support in writing your story speak to your English teacher, or visit the Creative Writing Club any Monday lunchtime. Good luck and have a fantastic National Storytelling Week!
