  8. List of Items Reminder of recent WG3 meetings / events 1) UK Training School (24-26.06.2009, Prof. Illyas) 2) 5th WG3 Meeting in Sarajevo (29.08 – 02.09.2009) incl. 4 publications 3) Links with JPEG (EPFL) => also to be mentioned under WG2 4) STSMs implemented Activities to be deployed 5) Scientific framework: o Working Models + Tools (Paris)o R&D Implementation 6) Dissemination activities 7) Other activities / info

  9. 5) Sc. framework: Use case scenario (TRIBVN + EPFL) Preliminary analysis Raw Data ContentAnalysis ROIDetection ClassificationAnalysis Compression (MD production) MD production Database & Imagefeatures Database & Imagefeatures Remote Access (JPIP) Search & Retrieval … Refined Analysis «Google search» Compression: - Differential coding of ROI / non-ROI areas - Differential coding along object / area classes - Optimally store (MD) data for later search / retrieval (« Google search »)  Interest for performing the analysis in the compressed domain Refined analysis : - Localization + identification of features (MD production) Remote access : - Access to ROIs and MDs along levels, z-planes, multi-spectra, etc.

  10. Use of standards Preliminary analysis Raw Data ContentAnalysis ROIDetection ClassificationAnalysis Compression (MD production) MD production Database & Imagefeatures Database & Imagefeatures Remote Access (JPIP) Search & Retrieval … Refined Analysis «Google search» Compression: - JPEG 2000 (as an option) + AIC including: processing of 3D + multispectra data Remote access : - JPIP (actually part of JPEG 2000) Search & Retreival : - JPSearch (as an option) including organization of MetaData

  11. Perspectives (contributions to standards): • Regarding existing standards in JPEG:  Determine recommended / optimal parameter settings: JPEG 2000: Select optimal coding parameters & ROI management Organize optimally the tiles data to offer optimal access to data (for remote access / JPIP) JP3D: Select settings and optimal parameters ( including for multi-spectral data) • Regarding emerging standards in JPEG: JPSearch: Specify needs / requirements for pathology Contribute to the JPSearch standardization process AIC(Advanced Image Coding): Consider usage / interest for pathology • Contribution to International Standardization groups covering JPEG2000, AIC, JPSearch, DICOM, CEN and HL7

  12. 5) Scientific framework (cont’d) o Working Models + Tools (Paris) o R&D Implementation Recently granted projects: o EPFL: Unusual Event Detection in Anatomic Telepathology Applications for Virtual Microscopy (started) o Others ?

  13. 6) Dissemination activities COST IC0604 has reach mid-life time => maturation is expected to be reached and dissemination is getting more important. => JOINT publications have higher value. => Do NOT forget to acknowledge COST IC0604, since this is the only measurable input establishing the link with COST. • Identify publications to be organized • Identify possible conference sessions to be organized Future events: • QoMEX 2010 conference (Trondheim, June 21-23, 2010)  To be complemented

  14. 7) Other activities / info • New STSMs to be set up • Others ?
