  5. 小提琴 Violin小提琴由大約六十塊不同的木片組合而成，四根弦以五度的間隔，調律成G D A E的高度，G弦能發出最深沉的聲音，E弦能發出高音。弓的形狀是由古代狩獵用的弓演變而成的，琴弓略為彎屈，通常以白色馬尾作為弓毛，以堅硬的松香塗在毛上，然後和琴弦磨擦振動而發聲。 在管弦樂中，小提琴分成第一和第二部。

  6. 中提琴 Viola中提琴它的四條弦是C、G、D、A，較小提琴低五度，較大提琴高八度。本身的尺寸不定，直接影響了演奏的技術，最重要及最普遍的室內樂合奏，是由兩把小提琴配一把大提琴的三重奏鳴曲，在獨奏方面的活動，由二十世紀才開始的。中提琴只擔任強化管弦樂低音的任務，直到近代，才開始演奏重要的旋律或過門樂句，有時也擔任獨奏樂器。

  7. 大提琴 Cello大提琴體積大概有小提琴兩倍，因而可產生高度共鳴。它和都有四根弦，音域約為四個八度。演奏方式有用弓毛拉弦、用手指撥弦和用弓桿敲弦。

  8. 低音提琴 Dobule Bass低音大提琴的最早製造者，據說是1670年左右的托第尼，至於它最初用入正規樂曲，則為葛路克的作品中發現，低音大提琴為近代管弦樂中最大的弦樂器，演奏者須站立拉奏，音色莊重而低沉，在合奏中擔任低音部份，共四弦定音為E、 A 、D、G.
