  1. Protecting your granite worktop from heat

  2. The effect of heat on Granite To fully understand the effect of heat from the hot pans and pots on the granite worktop of our kitchen, we would first have to get acquainted with the basic composition of the granite stone. Granite as many of you might know is a natural igneous rock mainly composed of mica, quartz, feldspar and amphibole minerals. Now although, granite is considered to be one of the most heat resistant worktop materials, it still can crack if subjected to continuous heat exposure over a long period of time.  This is general observation that a granite worktop is usually cold to touch and when a hot object is placed on this potentially cold surface, there are chances of stone cracking due to extreme temperature differences. This phenomenon however, is extremely rare in case of granites because of their high heat tolerance levels.

  3. Prevention from heat • What you need to do to prevent your stone from losing its high glossy sheen is to install pen stands in the counter by one of the professional suppliers and installers of kitchen worktops in Birmingham. These are basically metal inserts that are fitted into the bespoke holes cut out for them in the counter. This helps to clean them easily by simply removing them from their sockets and washing separately. • Another way to prevent worktop surface from hot pans is to have a separate removable worktop board made either of granite or some other material placed on the main counter, so that the next time you have to take a hot pan off the stove, you can simply put it on this special reserved area.
