  2. Direct Characterization • The author tells the reader directly about the character • The man was selfish, rude and stubborn.

  3. Indirect characterization • The author suggest traits by through a character’s words, actions, thoughts, appearance and the responses from other characters • Instead of putting money in the donation jar, the man reached inside and grabbed as many coins as his hand could hold. He pocketed the coins because he knew that he deserved them.
