  1. Benefits Minute Hurricane Sandy Relief through NYU Federal Credit Union As you know, many of our employees and members were impacted by Hurricane Sandy. The NYU Federal Credit Union is doing all they can to help them recover. An important part of their efforts is the New York Credit Union Foundation (NYCUF) Disaster Relief Fund, which enables them us to provide financial assistance to credit union members here in New York. • How to donate: • You can make a secure, online donation today by accessing this link: http://www.nyufcu.com/ASP/outside_link.asp?to=https://npo.networkforgood.org/Donate/Donate.aspx?npoSubscriptionId=8030 • Or you can donate by mail. Please make checks payable to the New York Credit Union Foundation and mail them to New York Credit Union Foundation, ATTN: Disaster Relief Fund, PO Box 15118, Albany, NY 12212 – 5118 • Funds will be distributed to help individuals replace personal belongings, purchase daily living items or make minor home repairs.

  3. Benefits Minute NYU Hurricane Sandy Emergency Loan Program Full-time faculty, administrators, and staff based at the New York campus can apply at http://www.nyu.edu/content/dam/nyu/hr/documents/NYUHurricaneSandyEmergencyLoanApplicationForm.pdf for a short-term loan to assist with expenses (i.e., medical, temporary housing, transportation, food, clothing, etc.) incurred as a result of the hurricane disaster, if the expenses are not reimbursed by insurance or other means. Loans under this program may be requested through January 31, 2013. Loan Structure:• Loans will not bear interest and no application fees will apply.• The $10 credit union membership fee will be paid by the University on the employee’s behalf; however, the employee will be required to maintain a $50 minimum account balance with the credit union.• Loan amounts available range from $500 to $2,500.• Loans will be repayable over 12 months in equal installments, commencing six months after the funding date.• Loans will become immediately due and payable if the employee’s employment with the University is terminated for any reason. The completed form should be returned to Barbara Cardeli-Arroyo via email at emp.relations@nyu.edu or by fax to 212-995-4054.

  4. Benefits Minute Hardship Loans and Withdrawals through TIAA-CREF TIAA-CREF If you are a participant in NYU’s Supplemental Tax Deferred Annuity Plan and have an account with TIAA-CREF, you may qualify for a hardship withdrawal or loan. To contact TIAA-CREF, call 800-842-2252. Whether a need is immediate and heavy depends on the facts and circumstances. Certain expenses are deemed to be immediate and heavy, including: (1) certain medical expenses; (2) costs relating to the purchase of a principal residence; (3) tuition and related educational fees and expenses; (4) payments necessary to prevent eviction from, or foreclosure on, a principal residence; (5) burial or funeral expenses; and (6) certain expenses for the repair of damage to the employee's principal residence. EXPENSES FOR THE PURCHASE OF A BOAT OR TELEVISION WOULD GENERALLY NOT QUALIFY FOR A HARDSHIP DISTRIBUTION.
