  1. Novel Summary Today you are going to work on writing your novel summary. You should relate the important events of the novel. Remember: Please try your best to have everything refer back to One Woman’s Struggle with freedom following the Emancipation Proclamation and the Civil war.

  2. Items to Include in Summary Since the story revolves around Jane’s life, you can speak about the book in chronological order. Look at main events that occur, but make sure to bring it back to Jane’s struggle with her new-found freedom. Please try to only speak about prominent secondary characters and how they relate to Jane at a specific time in her life.

  3. Clarification on Paper Paragraph #1: Introduction Paragraphs 2-5(or thereabouts): Novel Summary Paragraphs 6: Introduction for Character Portrait/Analysis Paragraphs 7 – 14 (around that): Character Analysis Paragraph 15: Introduction to Research Paragraphs 16 – end: Historical Relevance
