Growing Greener Watershed Protection, Mine Reclamation, Oil & Gas Well Plugging, Technical Assistance, New and Innovative Technology Grants Open Space Grants, Recreation Grants, River Conservation Plans & Projects Grants Wastewater, Drinking Water and Stormwater Management Grants County Farmland Preservation Grants

  3. Primary Goals • Non-Point Source Pollution • Watershed Restoration & Protection • Abandoned Mine Reclamation • Oil & Gas Well Plugging Projects

  4. Eligible Applicants • Counties & Local Governments • County Conservation Districts • DEP recognized Watershed Organizations • Educational Institutions • Authorized organizations involved in watershed restoration and protection activities in Pennsylvania

  5. Project Types • Organizing a Watershed Group • Watershed Assessment to develop a Watershed Restoration / Protection Plan • Implementation Project • Demonstration Project • Education & Outreach

  6. Allowable Costs • Personnel • Travel & lodging • Materials and supplies • Administrative (up to 2% of grant) • Professional Services • Construction costs • Equipment purchases (<$5,000.00)

  9. Pennsylvania’s Coastal Zone Management Program (CZM)

  10. Coastal Zone Management • PA’s CZM Program is funded by: • Federal Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management (OCRM) • National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) • U.S. Department of Commerce

  11. Coastal Zone Management PA has two coastal areas • The 57-mile stretch of coastline along the Delaware Estuary • The 63-mile Lake Erie coastline

  12. Coastal Zone Management FUNDING LIMITATIONS • $50,000 grant limit per project. • 50% Local match required Funds contributed by another federal grant program may NOT be applied as local match.

  13. Coastal Hazard Areas Dredging and Spoil Disposal Fisheries Management Wetlands Public Access for Recreation Historic Sites and Structures,   Port Activities,   Energy Facilities Siting,   Intergovernmental Coordination,   Public Involvement Coastal Zone Management

  14. Coastal Zone Management Eligible Recipients: State agencies, local governments, regional agencies and registered and pre-approved non-profit organizations. Application Deadline: April 1, 2002.

  16. Coastal Nonpoint Pollution Program (CNPP) • Through PA’s Coastal Zone Management Program (funds from NOAA) • Grant period – 18 months • Generally $50,000 or less – there may be exceptions • Projects that address specific types of NPS pollution

  17. Who is Eligible? • Municipalities • Non-Profit Orgs. • Conservation Districts • Schools • Other State Agencies

  18. CNPP – NPS CategoriesSpecific measures under: • Agriculture • Urban runoff • Recreational boating and marinas • Eroding stream channels and stream banks • Protection of wetlands from pollution

  19. Project Examples • Streamside buffer assessment and restoration • Storm water management – education and retrofits • Streambank restoration using bioengineering or natural stream channel methods • Training for municipal officials
