  2. What Is AES? • The Automated Export System is the electronic filing of: • Shipper’s Export Declarations (SEDs) • Ocean Outward Manifests

  3. Benefits of AES • Saves time and money • Eliminates paper • Reduces duplicate reporting • Improves trade statistics

  4. How AES Works • Transmit export shipment (SED) data to AES with Filer ID and Shipment Reference Number = XTN • AES processes data against edit tables and US agency requirement files

  5. How AES Works • AES responds with one of the following messages: • Shipment accepted and a confirmation number is returned • Shipment accepted with warnings and a confirmation number is returned • Shipment not accepted; Fatal Error exists, Correct and Resubmit Shipment

  6. How AES Works • Deliver the merchandise to the carrier with one of the following exemption statements shown on the shipping documents: • No SED Required AES EIN SRN • No SED AES EIN SRN • NDR AES EIN SRN • NDR AES ITN

  7. AES Downtime Policy • AES down - your shipments move • Your system down - your shipments move • Contact one of your Client Reps • Report one of the AES exemption statements

  8. AES Filing Options • AES or AESDirect • Full Information Pre-departure(Option 2) • Full Information Post departure (Option 4) • AES Only • Partial Information Pre-departure; Complete Information Post-departure (Option 3)

  9. Full Information Pre-departure (Option 2) • Approximately 36 data elements • Required for: • Used vehicles • Precursor or essential chemicals • State Department licensed shipments • When you know the information prior to departure

  10. Full Information Post-departure (Option 4) • Full post-departure filing for prior approved exporters only • Report complete commodity data within 10 working days after exportation

  11. Partial Pre-departureComplete Post-departure (Option 3) • Transmit required 14 specific data elements prior to exportation • Transmit full information within 5 working days after exportation
