  3. Why Did We Pilot A Multifamily Collection? • LHWMP conducted a study in 2006 to assess its Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection services • Among the outcomes was explore ways to increase use of Program HHW collection services by multifamily residents

  4. What Do We Know About Multifamily HHW? • Residents living in multifamily dwellings use the HHW collection services far less than would be expected based on demographic and housing.

  24. What Did It Cost Us? • Charged for Time and Materials Two staff for 24 hours (3 days) Equipment Vehicle • Total Cost = $3,200

What Does It All Mean? • May confirm assumption that HHW is generated by single family homes • Multifamily residents don’t have very much HHW Smaller foot prints Limited storage No yards • Many multifamily units provide only garbage receptacles leading to disposing of HHW as garbage • Limited information available to residents on what is hazardous and how to properly dispose
