Thinking About Getting An Ebike

An ebike is a great alternative to paying high gas prices to get around town, but the distance to all the places you need to go is too far. An ebike (or electric bicycle) has an electric motor attached to the frame, or in the hub of the rear or front wheel. These motors are powered with long-lasting, high efficiency batteries.

  2. They provide the extra power you need in order to get you where you want to go. Although ebikes are more expensive than regular bicycles, the savings in time and energy will be well worth it.

  3. There are several things to consider when considering an ebike. What is your preferred mode of riding? Is your bike used for shorter trips around the neighborhood or longer distances? Ebike owners who are considering ebikes need to remember that an electric bike uses friction against the wheels, or a motor tie into the chain. This motor provides electric assistance and pedaling without the motor running will cause slightly more resistance than a traditional bicycle. The battery's additional weight will need to be considered. While high-efficiency electric batteries have made great strides in decreasing their size over the past few years, they still have a lot of weight. The plus side is that many bikes allow you to engage or disengage the power assist system on demand. This means you can eliminate that extra resistance simply by flipping a switch. You should look into models that have this feature if you don't intend to use the power assist while bicycling.

  4. An ebike will save you money because it has a motor that can significantly increase the range and speed of your commute. You can bike to places you wouldn't have been able to otherwise, which can help reduce harmful emissions. Ebikescan be more efficient than regular bicycles, and allow you to travel further with less effort. Ebikes are also easy to fold or keep low so you can store them when not in use. You can also stash them in your trunk so you can take them with you out of town.
