  1. Is It Better to Have Cataract Surgery Early? One of the most common questions is when is it time to have cataract surgery? For those of you who don't know a cataract is when the lens in your eye becomes cloudy, the timing of cataract surgery is Largely up to the patient. Cataracts decrease the quality of your vision. If you're having issues with the quality of your vision from the cataract then removing the cataract will probably help, if you're not having any problems with your vision then it's probably better to wait and not have surgery. Yet so it really depends, it depends on how much the cataract is affecting your Vision are you having trouble focusing reading small print, seeing while you're driving, do you get a lot of glare with headlights or with the sun. With the small cataract you can expect mild improvement to your vision, after surgery with large cataracts you can expect a large improvement. But patient ask the most common question that doctor doesn't the cataract have to be Ripe and what does that even mean, the analogy goes like this take a banana if the banana is green it's too early to eat wait till it's yellow it's ripe on the other hand if the banana is turning brown then you're waiting too long it's not that it has to be ripe but it's probably a good idea to wait until the banana is mostly yellow. Older techniques of cataract surgery required your cataract to be dense but now we can remove soft and hard cataracts fairly easily, that being said very dense cataracts are associated with more complications and slower healing. Why is that, you may ask for the moms out there it's the difference between delivering a seven pound baby or a ten pound baby it's more traumatic for a large dense Cataract to be removed from the eye than a medium or small size cataract. There are other factors consider in timing cataract surgery if your prescription for glasses is really bad so it will have a lower threshold to perform cataract surgery because your quality of life will improve substantially, also for patients with glaucoma early cataract surgery is generally helpful in Controlling eye pressure. Furthermore if you have retina problems that the retina specialist can't see well on exam because your cataract is in the way well then that's an indication to have your cataract removed as well. If you have other eye problems other than just cataract then we would need to talk about those as well for example removing cataracts will not cure macular Degeneration if you have cataracts and macular degeneration cataract surgery will only fix the cataracts. If the cataracts are causing 50 of your vision problems and macular

  2. degeneration is causing the other fifty percent of your vision problems then you can expect the cataract surgery to make your vision fifty percent better not a hundred percent. There really is no harm in waiting however you have to ask yourself why should you wait by having an operation to remove that cataract. The cataracts won't get better they will get worse with time And those anxieties and those frustrations will just take away that enjoyment. It's about enjoying your life to its fullest giving you that freedom that confidence to be the you that you want to be the you that you deserve to be and so please stop waiting and start living again, making a call couldn't be easier you'll come through to a member of Rajas Eye Hospital friendly Team.
