  1. RAL Test Bed Report and the UK MDS Steve Traylen, WP6GridPP 5, Imperial College s.m.traylen@rl.ac.uk RAL Site Report UK Meta Directory Service LCFG installation method Steve Traylen, RAL Test Bed Report and UK MDS

  2. Current EDG v1.2.2 Application Test Bed • 15 Dual 1 GHz PIII. • 500 MB RAM • 40 GB Disks. • Gigabit Ethernet – Now network installed. • Production test bed = 1 CE, 1 SE + 8 WNs. • AFS support recently added (read only). • The UI is part of CSF NIS. 600 HEP accounts. • 1 Network Monitor, 1 LCFG Server. • A ½ TB storage element is available. • An information catalogue for RGMA is installed for testing. • Nodes are linked into RAL’s local monitoring service. • http://www.gridpp.ac.uk/sites/ral/ Steve Traylen, RAL Test Bed Report and UK MDS

  3. Testbed Configuration • Supported VOs: alice, atlas, eo, lhcb, cms, iteam, wpsix, biome, tutor, gridpp and babar. DZero to be added soon. • Presently 191 authorised users. • GDMP Configuration. • Now better though only supports one large pool of SEs. Different SEs for different VOs not supported. • Pattern matching on groups and users moves away from gridification. This makes addition of GDMP to an existing service difficult. • Introduction of VOMS should improve this a lot. Steve Traylen, RAL Test Bed Report and UK MDS

  4. Developer’s Nodes • Five nodes used by WP3 and WP5. • LCFG installed. • Root access via SSH keys. • Port Scanning Introduced. • Improvements • Use AFS home directories. • Use sudo for logging. • Install virtual user mode linux machines via LCFG once RH7 is available. Steve Traylen, RAL Test Bed Report and UK MDS

  5. Tier1a and EDG Middleware • Tier1a , March 2002 • 560 cpus, 50 TB disk. 80 TB tape. • An EDG CE is LCFG installed for job submission into existing accounts. Static grid mapfile. • Existing worker nodes appended with EDG software to the existing CSF service. • Job submission from UI via RB is successful. Steve Traylen, RAL Test Bed Report and UK MDS

  6. Tier1a and EDG Middleware • EDG Job submission into personal accounts is largely untested. • Possibly create job submission accounts. • For grid submissions the local account must be simple and default. • Standard environment that can be scratched. • Use virtual LANs to allow machines to migrate from CSF to EDG testbed. • Addition of storage element (service) is required. • http://www.gridpp.ac.uk/tier1a/ Steve Traylen, RAL Test Bed Report and UK MDS

  7. UK Meta Directory Service • A hierarchy of dynamic and static information from individual resources. • Information then published at a single point, the UK GIIS. • The RB uses this information to match and rank resources against a users jobs requirements as specified in their JDL. Steve Traylen, RAL Test Bed Report and UK MDS

  8. = GIIS IC RB = NM = CE IC UK = SE RAL Cavendish Bristol Liverpool Manchester UCL Tier1/a Testbed Ralpha Current UK Hierarchy Steve Traylen, RAL Test Bed Report and UK MDS

  9. Matching Jobs • A JDL job containingRequirements = member(other.RunTimeEnvironment,"ATLAS-1.3.0") ;Rank = other.MaxCpuTime;will run at the site with the longest CPU time and with atlas software installed. • Environments: CMS-1.1.0, ATLAS-3.2.1, ALICE-3.07.01, LHCb-1.1.1, CMSIM-125, EDG-TEST, EDG-CERTIFIED, …. • Booleans: AFSAvailable, OutboundIP, InboundIP, … . Steve Traylen, RAL Test Bed Report and UK MDS

  10. Registering into the UK MDS • The manual way - /etc/globus.confGRID_INFO_GRIS_REG_GIIS=hepmanGRID_INFO_GRIS_REG_HOST=gf18.hep.man.ac.ukGRID_INFO_GIIS_1=hepmanGRID_INFO_REG_GIIS_1=ukGRID_INFO_REG_HOST_1=gppinfo.gridpp.rl.ac.uk • The LCFG way – site-cfg.h#define COUNTRY_OR_ORG_GIIS ral#define COUNTRY_OR_ORG_GIIS_HOSTNAME gppinfo.gridpp.rl.ac.uk • http://www.gridpp.ac.uk/tb-support/tb-install/ Steve Traylen, RAL Test Bed Report and UK MDS

  11. LCFG Install Procedure • Published at http://www.gridpp.ac.uk/tb-support/ • A modified Redhat network installation. • A script that does almost everything. • Hardens Redhat 6.2 • Sets up Apache, NTP, NFS. • Downloads all the RPMs • Checks out edg-release. • Installs RPMs on the server. • Deletes some files that are never used. • Instructions for site-cfg.h and post LCFG instructions.. • Time : 2 – 3 days if hardware is simple and can be dedicated. • The recommended method for EDG installation across Datagrid and Crossgrid. • Looking for other testers. Steve Traylen, RAL Test Bed Report and UK MDS

  12. Common Installation Problems • PBS. Quite obscure to set up the first time. • WNs on a private network. NIKHEF uses NAT and this is transparent. • Firewalls, inbound and outbound port ranges required by some sites. • Final registration. Who do I tell that I exist? Steve Traylen, RAL Test Bed Report and UK MDS
