  2. Why Do We Eat? We usually eat when: We are hungry We are tired We are bored We are mad Happy Or just because it’s a meal time. Mental and physical reasons why we eat.

  3. We need to eat foods that will give us the vitamins and minerals our body needs to function. If you do not eat a healthy diet, you are putting yourself at risk of developing health problems.

  4. The importance of good nutrition is the main prevention measure against a high number of human diseases. It helps fight off a wide array of diseases such as: • diabetes • high blood pressure • Coronary heart disease • Stroke • Good nutrition and regular exercise, can greatly reduce the risks of these problems, maybe even eliminate some of them.

  5. 60% of all cancers in women, and 40% of all cancers in men, may be due to dietary, and nutritional factors.

Health Triangle Mental/Emotional Good Nutrition effects the mental emotional side because some foods are healthy for the brain and some aren’t Physical You can eat too much which will lead to obesity. Or you can eat too little and you will get sick. Social If you don’t eat breakfast than you could be grumpy, and no one would want to talk to you

  7. Good Nutrition for developing teens is vital. Hydration is part of good nutrition and teens need to be aware of their intake of fluids. Caffeinated Soda just dehydrates the body further. • If you play a sport, or any sort of physical activity, good nutrition plays a big part. • Skipping meals or allowing the body to get dehydrated not only equals a bad performance, but can lead to injury, and in some rare cases, can lead to death.

  8. Moderately active teenage boys should consume at least 2,500 calories per day • Moderately active teenage girls should consume at least 2,300 calories per day. • The intense athletic teen needs about 4,000 calories per day depending on the intensity of their physical activity.

  9. Why did they change the food pyramid to the food plate? The pyramid advertised some food groups in small portions so it was failing to capture the publics eye. The plate was designed to be easily understood at a glance.

  10. Why you should eat a healthy Breakfast • If your last meal was dinner, and you didn’t eat breakfast, it’s been about 15 hours since you’ve eaten any food. Your body is hungry whether you realize it or not. • But some breakfasts are worse than nothing at all. If you eat a doughnut for breakfast it provides a quick rush of energy for about 40 minutes, then you are really tired.

  11. How does good nutrition effect the brain? • Nutrients like Vitamin C, help protect the brain by boosting the capacity to help your memory. • Nutritious and wholesome foods improve how well you are able to concentrate and focus.

  15. Recent research shows that nourishing food not only makes a child healthier, it makes them emotionally more stable, and it improves school performance.
