  2. What can and is being done to improve delivery to the most vulnerable • Raising awareness of the need to change patterns of energy usage • Education for the next generation of energy users • Improving the supply chain to ensure resources are delivered in the most effective way • Working with major agencies in London to maximise local schemes

  3. Raising awareness & changing behaviours –Green Streets initiative • Green Streets is a year-long social experiment in energy saving, monitored and analysed by the Institute of Public Policy Research (ippr) • Participating families on eight streets in eight UK cities – a mix of customers of British Gas and other energy suppliers – were given a budget of £30,000 per street to spend on energy efficiency measures, with advice from British Gas energy experts • The street which reduces its energy usage and CO2 emissions the most over a year will win £50,000 to spend on making a community building more energy efficient

  4. Green Streets– our London case study • Greenend Road in Chiswick has cut it’s energy usage by 21% in the year to date • Residents chose primary pipe work insulation and new boilers. However solar powered battery chargers for mobile phones and other gadgets have proved the biggest hit with the residents • The Broughton family regularly blog on Channel 4 online about their experience and have cut their usage by 40%

  5. Investing in our future -Generation Green • Generation Green provides schools with specially designed learning materials and rewards them for taking simple energy-saving steps • Schools are given a ‘Leaf Goal’ and earn ‘Green Leaves’ for undertaking specific actions. When a Leaf Goal is reached, the school is awarded green-themed prizes • Over 6,000 schools currently signed up across the UK • British Gas staff volunteer in local schools to teach good energy habits and demonstrate alternative energy solutions e.g. hydrogen cars

  6. What additional help is being provided…. • Increasing the levels of insulation measures • 50% extra across this winter • 4 free energy saving light bulbs for every British Gas customer • Council Tax schemes to encourage thermal comfort measures • 13 schemes in and around London • ESCO Trial • First real in the home specialist service giving advice and access to energy saving products • Energy Savers Pack (social housing schemes) • 5 low cost simple technologies to improve energy usage

  7. Creating the embodiment of ‘Your Energy Experts’ • Delivering expert advice in the home • Providing access to the right products & services • Integrating CERT measures more effectively • Technical inspections undertaken on the same visit System Upgrades Loft Insulation Energy advice Cavity Wall Insulation Home Energy Audit Lighting Green Gadgets High Efficiency Boilers Microgen - Heat Microgen - Power
