Fast Facts About Persian Cats Persian cats were first discovered by Italian traveler Pietro della Valle (1585-1652), who, “described these gray, longhaired cats as ‘very tame,’ and observed that ‘the Portuguese have brought them from Persia into India’” (Gebhardt 113).   3. Fast Facts About Persian Cats Persian cats come in a variety of colors, including, “black, chocolate or brown, blue, red, cream, silver, gold, and white. Persians also can have different markings. Some Persians have light-colored coats with darker faces, ears, paws, and tails. These Persians are called Himalayans” (Mattern). Fig. 2. Smith, John.
